web-robots or robots.txt are kind of virtual agents designed by search engines to
infiltrate the world wide web and - target - search websites
for a very pre-determine content.
after gathering information, it turn and head back to base safe. 
some of these search results could then be used by the clients 'us searchers'.
so, in other words without these robots, it would absolutly not be possible
to find out whats in websites hosted in servers world wide.
